YouTube Introduces New Era in Virtual Reality with Updated Policies on Harassment and Cyberbullying
YouTube is stepping up its game with a new approach to tackle content that involves cyberbullying and harassment. Starting January 16th, the platform will no longer accept videos that use advanced technology, known as deepfakes, to create very realistic but false images of harm or violence against minors and victims of crime. This change, initiated byYouTube, also includes sending warnings to users who post such content.
The main focus of this update is to shield individuals, particularly children, from being depicted in a disturbing way through AI-created videos, which often narrate violent events. A concerning trend in some videos is the use of AI to mimic children’s voices narrating violent acts, which adds to the unsettling nature of the content.
Under YouTube’s new rules, breaking these guidelines will lead to consequences for the users. Initially, violators will face a temporary ban on uploading videos for a week. Continuous violations will lead to harsher penalties, potentially resulting in the complete closure of their channels.
Additionally, YouTube has made it clear that any AI-generated content that realistically shows violence might be removed, regardless of whether it’s labeled as AI-created.
