YouTube Introduces Labeling System for AI-Generated Content
YouTube has introduced a new content labeling tool generated by artificial intelligence onto its platform.
The platform is urging content creators to specify content created using artificial intelligence. Accordingly, the company has announced the addition of a new labeling tool. With this tool, content creators will be required to clearly indicate if their videos contain content generated by artificial intelligence or synthetic materials.
The new labeling tool will appear during the upload and publishing process, prompting content creators to describe “modified or artificial” content realistically.
This “modified or artificial content” includes things like making someone say or do something they didn’t actually do, altering images of real events and places, or depicting scenes that aren’t actually real but appear highly realistic. Some examples provided by YouTube include a fake tornado approaching a real city or using deepfake voices to narrate a video on behalf of a real person.
However, explanation will not be required for content that is already obviously not real, such as beauty filters, background blurs, and animations.
In a blog post addressing the matter, YouTube states that labels related to the use of artificial intelligence will be more prominent in content related to sensitive topics like health or news.
