YouTube is Getting Ready to Introduce Public Usernames Feature! Attention to Those Without a Custom URL!

On October 10th, YouTube announced that public usernames will soon be available to everyone. Public usernames are a new feature that allows content creators and other users to find and interact with each other. Although this new feature is not yet available on YouTube, let’s take a look at the details:

Each YouTube channel will have a unique public username. This will make it easier for you to create your distinctive identity on YouTube. With your chosen public username, you’ll be able to
reflect your own style on the platform.

For example, if your public username is @ermangulgec, your channel’s URL will be https://youtube.com/@ermangulgec.
Every channel will have a public username, and since these usernames will be unique, you’ll easily be able to identify whether you are interacting with the right person.

Your public username will be visible on various YouTube platforms, including your channel’s main page, search results, Shorts feed, comments, and community posts. Other users can use
this username to mention you in comments and community posts. Outside of YouTube, you can also use this username for promoting your channel (https://youtube.com/@ermangulgec). Usernames can have a maximum of 30 characters and must comply with YouTube Community Guidelines.

YouTube will gradually roll out public usernames for all channels in the coming weeks. When this feature becomes active, YouTube will inform you through YouTube Studio and email.
When choosing your public username, you are not required to stick to your channel name (unlike in the custom URL). Public usernames can include numbers, dots, or underscores. If you already have a custom URL, the system will automatically reserve it as your public username. If you don’t have a custom URL, the public username you desire may already be taken. Therefore, you should change your custom URL now to have a chance to select the same name as your public username. If you don’t do this, YouTube will automatically assign a name that can be changed later, or you’ll need to select a new available public username.
