TikTok Tests New 60-Minute Video Feature to Compete with YouTube

TikTok is rapidly evolving in its quest to rival YouTube. The platform is now testing a feature that allows users to upload videos up to 60 minutes long.

TikTok’s New 60-Minute Video Feature

TikTok, known for its short, snappy videos, is increasingly adding YouTube-like features. Recently, TikTok introduced the ability to upload videos up to 15 minutes long. Now, some sources reveal that TikTok is testing an even longer video format, allowing videos up to 60 minutes. Here’s what we know so far.

60-Minute Video Uploads on TikTok

Following the launch of the 15-minute video feature, TikTok is now trialing a 60-minute video upload option. This feature is currently in the testing phase and available to a limited number of users in select countries. It’s expected that this feature won’t be rolled out to all users in the immediate future as the company continues its testing.

Extending Video Length on TikTok

TikTok aims to increase user engagement by extending video lengths up to 60 minutes. This allows for the creation and sharing of more substantial content. Users with access to this feature have received the following update:

“Upload longer videos

You can now upload videos up to 60 minutes long! Make sure your app is updated, then try uploading from the app or desktop website.”

TikTok’s Legal Battles in the U.S.

Amidst ongoing security concerns and legal issues with the U.S. government, TikTok has decided to sue the government. This move comes as part of TikTok’s efforts to navigate and address these challenges.

Benefits of Longer Videos on TikTok

The new feature will enable users to upload comprehensive videos such as cooking tutorials, beauty tips, educational content, and more. This capability also opens up possibilities for streaming entire episodes of TV shows, addressing issues like those faced by Peacock, which had to split a full episode into five parts when uploading to TikTok last year. Additionally, TikTok is testing a full-screen horizontal mode.
