A New Era of Gaming Begins on YouTube: Meet Playables
YouTube is reshaping the online gaming world with its innovative Playables feature, enabling users to engage in over 75 diverse games directly through the platform. To start playing, simply navigate to YouTube’s website or mobile apps and select the Playables option from the sidebar.
Originally launched last year exclusively for YouTube Premium subscribers, the Playables service began with a modest assortment of games and was available for a limited time, concluding in March. YouTube has since expanded this feature, opening it up to all users and significantly increasing the number of available games.
Players can now choose from an extensive range of games, from traditional favorites like chess and puzzles to popular mobile games including Angry Birds Showdown!, Trivia Crack, and Cut the Rope. YouTube also enhances the gaming experience by enabling players to save their progress and monitor their high scores.
This initiative is part of a growing trend where platforms not traditionally linked to gaming are integrating games into their services. LinkedIn recently introduced fun games, while The New York Times, Hearst, and Netflix have also incorporated games into their services. YouTube’s parent company, Google, ventured into the gaming sphere with Google Stadia in 2019, though it ceased the service in early 2023.
