YouTube Introduces Live Videos to Shorts Streams
Google’s video platform YouTube, continuing its reign as the undisputed leader in the video arena, is now adding live videos to its Shorts streams.
In response to the rising popularity of platforms like TikTok, Google has been refining its vertically-oriented and short-format Shorts to keep pace.
According to the official announcement, YouTube will now allow users to add live videos to Shorts streams. However, unlike typical live streams, these videos won’t start automatically; viewers will need to tap the “live watch” button that appears below to begin watching.
With this feature set to roll out soon, it’s expected to attract a significant user base rapidly. Notably, YouTube recently made headlines with its peculiar “color-based” filtering system testing.
Currently, this system is being tested with a limited audience, allowing users to filter recommended videos based on colors. Although the exact mechanics are yet to be fully understood, it’s believed that YouTube analyzes the predominant color in the video thumbnail and filters recommendations accordingly.
For instance, selecting the color red would prompt the system to suggest videos where red is dominant in the thumbnail. The rationale behind such a feature remains unclear, and the timeline for its universal release is still uncertain.
YouTube had previously hit a significant milestone with the recent official announcement that YouTube Music and Premium have reached 100 million subscribers.
